Close the Gap Church event to explore ways to help “Close the Care Gap” Feb. 3 Church of the Good Shepherd UMC, in Willingboro, NJ, will host a seminar titled “Close the Care Gap,” about Addressing Health Disparities at the Intersections” on Saturday, February 3, at 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The founder of Healing Communities USA, a national restorative justice program. the Rev. Harold Dean Trulear, will address “Incarceration as a Public Health Issue,” while the Rev. Vanessa Wilson, Good Shepherd’s pastor, will speak on "Public Health Issues at the Intersections."Clergy and lay attendees will learn about resources to fight the sin of racism in health care by addressing disparities within distinct populations. The conference, funded in part by Greater New Jersey’s Journey of Hope initiative, will address the intersection of three public health-related issues: Racism, Incarceration and Cancer Survivorship. Wilson, a cancer survivor who helped launch Healing Communities in GNJ through the UMC’s Board of Church & Society, is the founder of Sikhona Inc, which works with congregations to provide resources and support to “eliminate healthcare disparities and build integrative health care solutions.”
